DAYLE'S FITNESS TIPS

IF YOU ARE TRYING TO LOSE FAT, WHICH IS BETTER...

RUNNING AT A MODERATE PACE FOR A LONGER TIME,

OR DOING SEVERAL SPRINTS FOR A SHORTER AMOUNT OF TIME?

This study was published in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise (2011; 43 [1], 115-22)

Twenty people were divided into two groups. They all ran 3x a week for 6 weeks.

The first group did 30-second sprints, as fast as they could, 6x per session, with a 4 minute rest between each sprint.  

The second group ran for 30-60 minutes each session at a moderate intensity (65% VO2max). 

After 6 weeks, the fat mass of the moderate intensity group decreased by 5.8%, while fat mass of the sprint group decreased by 12.4%.
