My career in fitness began when my mother died.  She was 48 years old and weighed nearly 300 pounds. She died from complications after having gastric bypass surgery.

It was 1981, and I was 19 years old. They didn’t have personal trainers back then. I’ve often wondered if my mother would still be alive today if she’d had a personal trainer to guide her, motivate her, and support her in her desire to create a healthy life.

I grew up watching my mother’s struggle to lose weight: Atkins Diet, Scarsdale Diet, Grapefruit Diet, Weight Watchers, and Hypnosis. She even had my father weigh her every day and lock the refrigerator at night. Exercise didn’t exist for her, and her relationship with food was about deprivation and humiliation.

I was in college studying to become a teacher the summer my mother died. I wanted to stay close to home, so rather than taking a job at McDonalds, I started working at a gym called Elaine Powers. I’ve been involved in fitness ever since.

In addition to being a personal trainer and group exercise instructor, I taught Special Education for 20 years before retiring and devoting myself fully to fitness and health as a full time career in 2002.

As a speaker, I teach people easy, practical ways to eat a little better, exercise a little more, and handle stress, motivating them on their journey to living well.

As a personal trainer, I help people achieve their fitness and wellness goals by walking the journey with them, providing them with regular, fun, healthy exercise and guiding them to healthy eating.

I teach Gentle Yoga to individuals and small groups, Spin (group cycling), and Core Conditioning classes.

I have been a regular guest on the San Diego KUSI Morning News, demonstrating exercises and promoting fitness, and I’ve had several articles published in the IDEA Fitness Journal.

As a Certification Specialist for the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA),  I teach the Personal Fitness Trainer Certification course to people seeking to become certified personal trainers.

My goal is to help you reach YOUR goals...and to help you live a long, happy, and healthy life.
